Senior Project
While at the University of Alabama, my senior engineering project was working with Rockets and Racecars, an organization focused on outreach to children to encourage a STEM-based education. Our project involved shooting model rockets with the students on their playgrounds and recreaction areas. The challenges we encountered were hazards of landings outside the launch range, such as trees and roadways. Our goal was designing the rocket to land only in a certain radius of the launching area. We developed a predicative launch pad as well as a multi-stage parachute system that ejected after a certain amount of time. I additionally addressed the problem of breakage when rockets laned on concrete or other hard surfaces. My analysis included determining the breaking point of the material by utilizing the kolsky bars at UA. Through this I obtained multiple data points along with high speed video of the breaking point at 28,000fps! |

Combustions Project
Certain frequencies can cause harmonic motion in valve springs within an engine. Correct valve spring pressure on the intake and exhaust valves is extremely important to the engine performance. If the pressure is too high it increases heat and wear on the valve train, too low and you can cause valve bounce or valve float at high rpm. We were tasked with producing a simple yet adaptable design for analyzing the engine springs at different rpm. This design was also able to adapt to fit to a small motor to oscillate at high rpm and open for a high speed camera to be placed to view any valve float that might occur.

Co-op Projects
During college at UA I completed two semesters of co-op education at International Paper's North American Papers Riverdale Mill in Selma, Ala. During my time there I had the opportunity to learn both the pulp process and paper side of the mill.

BAMA Triathlon 2016
Away from the classroom, I assumed responsibility for the inaugural Bama Triathlon. This allowed me to use strong business management skills to successfully oversee and administer a completely funded triathlon on the UA campus during my final semester.
Through careful budgeting, I obtained full funding and sponsorship months in advance through grant applications, which often required face to face presentations detailing my plan. These included gaining approval from alumni groups and club sports organizations. By building relationship and encouraging participation from these groups, our event went as smooth as possible, due to staff support before and during the race. An extensive communications plan enabled us to reach multiple groups, including alumni, current students and other college/university team. The proceeds from this event provided funding for the University of Alabama Triathlon Club to travel to races during the school year. |
